What is VirusBurst?
VirusBurst (Virus Burst, Virus Burster, Virus Bursters)
is a ransomware anti-spyware product that is normally bundled
with different trojans (mostly codec trojans) as a way of
installation. VirusBurst - or the trojan that installs it -
starts issuing warning messages to the user claiming that
their PC is infected, then suggests purchasing the full
version to have the infections removed.
A false message appears in the system tray as a balloon that may state:
- "Critical System Error!"
- "System detected virus activity. They may cause critical"
- "system failure. Please, use antimalware software to clean"
- "and protect your system from parasite programs." or
"Click this balloon to get all available software."
Clicking on this balloon leads the user to the VirusBurst website, which may be very convincing for many computer users.
When VirusBurst is installed, it creates a number of files and registry subkeys such that it will run every time
Windows starts. The user's browser will then launch various websites including the VirusBurst offer page and pornography pop-up ads.
It can be obtained when a user was told to download a new codec for their media player,
if this file is downloaded it can contain virusburst.
Virusbust has been recently changed to Virusbursters in order to avoid detction by
anti-malware products. The malware itself has not changed just the name and the logos.
This virus can install a homepage monitor which would redirect your internet browser
to fradulent pages.
